Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer Injury Update: Morne Morkel Shares Positive News Before IND vs SA ODI Series

The Indian team has two major headache concerns: Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. The three-match ODI series against South Africa starting in Ranchi on November 30 cannot substitute the talent of either of the two players. This indeed makes their absence a big loss for the Indian team and hence, there is worry about it. This is why losing them is a major setback for the Indian team and so there is anxiety surrounding it. Naturally, the Indian team would like to have all their top players available and that is why there are a lot of fans who are scared.

Indian captain Gil is present in both the Test and ODI teams and during the first game against South Africa, he got injured and had to sit out for a long period. It is very much reasonable for the supporters to speculate about how bad the injury is. India’s vice-captain in ODIs, Shreyas Iyer, is also facing injuries and has not been given the green light to participate in the forthcoming games.

India bowling coach Morne Morkel had a good update just a couple of days ahead of the first ODI. Morkel attended a briefing and announced that both Gill and Iyer are “recovering well”; Morkel said that they are holding to the plan set out for them in the rehabilitation. The team management expects both of them to be back with the team shortly, albeit not for the first game.

According to Morkel, the medics and support staff members are positively aligned to the players and, to the extent that things are going, the outlook is good. Although their absence will be felt in the SA series, the spotlight is clearly on making sure they come back completely fit, rather than hurrying the overall process.

This will certainly calm fans as Hide and Iyer is one of the most reliable Indian batters at the middle order. They have to be back for the big tournaments ahead. As of now, India has a renewed roster and is good to go for the ODI series. They will still be tracking their senior players close. For now, India is busy with their preparations, and the senior players are on a tight leash. More updates on their progress are expected in the coming days.
