A devastating road accident in Saudi Arabia has reportedly claimed the lives of 42 Umrah pilgrims, most of them from Hyderabad, Telangana, after their passenger bus collided with a diesel tanker early Monday while travelling from Mecca to Medina. According to initial information, only one passenger survived the tragic crash.
Crash Details
The collision occurred around 1:30 am IST, when most passengers were reportedly asleep. Eyewitness accounts and local residents who first reached the site stated that over 40 people died on the spot, though Saudi authorities have not yet issued an official final death toll.
According to the Telangana State Haj Committee, the deceased include 20 women and 11 children, with the majority belonging to Hyderabad, while others hailed from different parts of the state.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed his shock, saying:
“Deeply shocked at the accident involving Indian nationals in Medinah, Saudi Arabia. Our Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate in Jeddah are giving fullest support to Indian nationals and families affected by this accident. Sincere condolences to the bereaved families.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also offered condolences, posting on X:
“Deeply saddened by the accident in Medinah involving Indian nationals. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the swift recovery of all those injured.”
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed senior officials to immediately gather full details and extend all necessary support to the families.
