Pakistan offers to host Bangladesh matches at T20 World Cup

Beneath the surface of cricket politics, PCB stands firm behind BCB choosing not to go to India. With eyes on ICC, a key moment nears for an official call

Later today might bring clarity on whether Bangladesh plays in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, after Pakistan’s cricket board stepped forward offering to stage their games. This move shifts things quietly, stirring reactions across layers of politics, safety debates, and growing expectations for the ICC to act. Uncertainty lingers, yet options now seem less narrow than before.

Pakistan says Bangladesh’s concerns over games in India matter. A message went to cricket’s main group explaining the worry. Should moving matches to Sri Lanka fail for any reason, one option stands clear. Hosting every Bangladesh game during the tournament could happen in Pakistan instead.

This step follows a strong position from the Bangladesh Cricket Board, supported by their national government, stating clearly that going to India right now is off the table. Even after several talks with the ICC – one taking place at a senior level in Dhaka just days ago – both parties remain locked in place. Not once has the ICC changed its view: the event must stick to the planned dates. Yet Bangladesh still says no to playing games on Indian soil.

Right now, Bangladesh is set to face all four group games in India – three in Kolkata, one in Mumbai. Still, the BCB has officially asked for those fixtures to shift to Sri Lanka instead, pointing to safety questions and wider regional tensions. By Wednesday, the ICC Board should decide on how things proceed, especially if Bangladesh must go to India once the event kicks off February 7.

Pakistan stepping in stands out when you look at their current setup for the event. With the plan set by the BCCI, ICC, and PCB lasting until 2027, they were already due to play every World Cup game in Sri Lanka instead of India. Hosting Bangladesh’s matches too shifts how people see them – now more like a strong backer within the ICC circles.

Now things got hotter when Kolkata Knight Riders let go of Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman. Word is, they acted on orders from the BCCI citing fresh issues popping up. That choice lit a fire across Bangladesh. Not long after, Dhaka blocked all TV coverage of the Indian Premier League at home. Then came confirmation – Bangladesh cricket authorities told the ICC they would skip playing World Cup games in India.

Though the PCB hasn’t said anything openly, people close to the situation say Bangladesh reached out to Pakistan for help – both political and in sports. Offering to stage Bangladesh’s games shows support, but makes things harder for the ICC when organizing the event. The move feels quiet yet meaningful, even if it stirs logistical headaches behind the scenes.

Few weeks left before the World Cup, time slipping fast. The ICC must now choose – move matches to Sri Lanka, take Pakistan’s proposal seriously, or try convincing Bangladesh again. Each step shapes how cricket handles politics and safety at big tournaments down the road.
