The Prime Vice-President Narendra Modi marked National Constitution Day by honoring the authors of the Indian Constitution and declaring the document an important symbol of respect freedom, equality and justice. Modi claimed that the Constitution has given people of all walks of life to envision and realize their dreams.
PM Modi took stock of his personal journey, and said that the Constitution allowed people from a modest economic family like his to be able to lead the government for over two years. He also recalled the emotions when he first stepped into Parliament in 2014, bowing at its steps. He also bowed in 2019 when he placed the Constitution on his forehead in gesture of respect. According to him that’s the main power of the Constitution as it offers people the chance to be confident and gives everyone opportunities.
Remembering the Makers of the Constitution
In his message, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the members of the Constituent Assembly chaired by Dr. Rajendra Prasad. He praised Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for guiding the Drafting Committee with deep vision and clarity. He also highlighted the significant contributions of women members of the Constituent Assembly, whose insights helped shape the document.
PM Modi also remembered leaders like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Birsa Munda and Mahatma Gandhi, saying their lives remind the nation of its duties and its collective responsibility to achieve social and economic progress.
A Special Year of Milestones
It is a year of celebration. Constitution Day holds added significance because it falls on the 150th birthday anniversary of Sardar Patel and Birsa Munda. Also, Prime Minister Modi mentioned other significant milestones, such as one hundred years of “Vande Mataram” and 350 years of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom.
A Vision for Viksit Bharat
Modi asked citizens to reiterate their dedication to India’s Constitutional values. He also said that the choices made today will decide the way India will look in 2047, when the country will have completed the 100th anniversary of its independence and also in 2049 when the Constitution will turn 100 years old.
He ended by urging people to actively contribute to creating an “Viksit Bharat” -an economically modernized as well-empowered India.
