Mohsin Naqvi’s Reaction as He Presents Asia Cup Rising Stars Trophy to Pakistan Shaheens

Mohsin Naqvi was not able to hide his enthusiasm when he handed his Asia Cup Rising Stars trophy to Pakistan Shaheens after their thrilling victory against Bangladesh A in the final game of their series on Sunday. For Naqvi whom is also his position as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) director and head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) this event carried additional importance. It was his first trophy transfer that was smooth following the controversy over his older Asia Cup presentation earlier this year.

In September, the ceremony to award the trophy was a mess as it was revealed that the Indian team, headed by Suryakumar Yadav, refused to accept the award direct from Naqvi. The conflict escalated to the point that Naqvi took away all awards and medals from the stage. The situation hasn’t been resolved in a definitive manner. In the present, the first Asia Cup trophy remains unclaimed.

In the meantime, behind closed doors, talks with Naqvi and the BCCI are taking place. BCCI and Naqvi have been reported to continue. However, on the front there’s been no action in the last few days, and the Indian team is waiting for a formal transfer.

Returning at this Rising Stars final, the game itself became an intense battle. Bangladesh scored 125 runs in the first innings. Pakistan even though they were having a small target however, had their own issues and finished their 40-over innings with the exact same score, putting the game to the realm of a Super Over.

The Super Over turned out to be easy to Pakistan Shaheens. They only needed 7 runs to secure the victory, and finished the game with confidence in just four balls without dropping one wicket.

The Big Question: When Will India Finally Receive Their Trophy?

The reports suggest that an original Asia Cup trophy is sitting in the ACC headquarters in Dubai at Naqvi’s direction. During the recent ICC Board meetings in Dubai (November 2025) the BCCI discussed the matter again both informally and formal. Naqvi is believed to have endorsed the issue needs to be resolved.

However, no significant progress was seen since. The previous time, Naqvi even suggested that Indian players could go in Dubai to personally pick up the trophy, or even participate in a formal ceremony. The BCCI was reported to have rejected both ideas.

For now, the trophy is in Dubai and is waiting for an agreement among the crowd on.
