The the veteran Bollywood actor Madhuri Dixit responded to the controversy triggered by Deepika Padukone’s stated request for an eight-hour working day, she explained that in her most recent film Mrs Deshpande she together with her team were working 12-hour shifts and at times, even longer.
Madhuri stated that she’s “a person who is a workaholic” which means her long working hours are a natural. However, she stressed she believes that when a femaleor any actoris comfortable working less hours, it should be their decision, and should be treated with consideration.
This comment comes amid a lot of debate following Deepika has been reported to have withdrawn from films like Spirit or the Kalki 2898 AD sequel. According to reports, she wanted to work less to keep her balance after having a baby.
Madhuri’s view demonstrates that the acceptance of working for a long time is highly individual, and should not be viewed as a standard that is universally applicable in the world of film.
