Social media in Pakistan has been engulfed with unverified rumours about former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s alleged death, even as his sisters accused police of assaulting them outside Adiala Jail.
According to reports, Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan, and Dr Uzma Khan visited the jail after being denied a meeting with Imran Khan for nearly a month. They stated that they were quietly waiting outside when police personnel allegedly charged at them without any warning.
The sisters described the incident as a “planned and unjustified attack”, claiming they were mishandled and forcibly pushed away from the area. They have lodged a formal complaint with Punjab police chief Usman Anwar, demanding an impartial investigation.
Noreen Niazi, the eldest sister, said she faced rough treatment while being removed from the premises and suffered visible injuries during the scuffle. The sisters also alleged that streetlights were turned off, and that some members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) present at the scene were mistreated as well.
Imran Khan has been in custody since August 2023 in connection with several ongoing legal cases.
Rumours of Imran Khan’s Death Spread Online
Alongside the incident, multiple social media accounts circulated unverified claims suggesting that Imran Khan has been kept in isolation for several days, with no family visits allowed despite court directions. Some posts even speculated about funeral arrangements — none of which have been confirmed by any official authority.
The rumours gained more traction after a verified X (formerly Twitter) account associated with the Baluchistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared posts amplifying the claims. Another post from the Afghanistan Times X handle also repeated similar unverified allegations.
As of now, no official statement from Pakistan’s government, prison authorities, or PTI has confirmed any of these death-related claims.
