Injury blow for New Zealand as Adam Milne ruled out of T20 World Cup 2026; replacement named

It’s a devastating blow to New Zealand cricket as pace bowler Adam Milne has been ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 due to a torn left hamstring. For a player who has put in so much effort to keep his fitness and form and is now out of the chance to play in a World Cup is every cricketer’s nightmare.

Milne was a star performer during the last few months. He was an outstanding player in the team of Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 league, taking 11 wickets in nine matches – clear evidence of his the best form just when it was crucial. It was a terrible timing for someone who was finally hitting their stride.

Kyle Jamieson Steps Up to the Challenge

New Zealand have turned to Kyle Jamieson to fill the gap left by the absence of Milne. The 31-year-old was on the ground in India as the reserve for travel and luck has been smiling for New Zealand Kiwis since Jamieson has started his career on the right foot. He’s already put in a strong start to his tour, scoring six wickets during New Zealand’s historic ODI series win in India and a standout four-wicket haul in the first game. He then followed that by putting on a great performance in the initial T20I in Nagpur. A Coach’s Disappointment

Black Caps head coach Rob Walter did not hide his emotions over losing Milne. “We’re all gutted for Adam,” Rob Walter admitted in his candid remarks. “He worked extremely hard to get himself ready and was looking back to his best.” However, Walter was quick to show confidence in Jamieson and praised him for being an experienced and hardworking bowler with the ability required to be successful in an World Cup campaign.

With Jamieson entering public spotlights, New Zealand will hope their pace-bowling department is robust as they prepare to take on Afghanistan on February 8 in Chennai the 8th of February the day they begin their Group D game along with South Africa, Canada, the UAE and Afghanistan.
