Dinesh Karthik, a former star of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the current batting coach, has taken a new coaching role in The Hundred. He will be the mentor and batting coach of the London Spirit Men’s team in the next season. The franchise made the announcement of the appointment on Wednesday, December 10.
After Dinesh Karthik, who is still playing in some overseas leagues while transitioning into coaching, shared his excitement of beginning a new chapter in his career, he said:
“I am really thrilled to be a part of London Spirit at such a fabulous time! While hearing about the plans and ambitions of Mo, MCC, and the Tech Titans, I couldn’t help but feel enthusiastic to join. To work at Lord’s during the English summer is really a dream come true.
It is the ground where I was the very first to play for India and also played my last Test. Lord’s means a lot to me. Can’t wait to see the team working together and get the opportunity to work with great cricketers next year.”
London Spirit’s Director of Cricket Mo Bobat, who also serves in the same role at RCB, welcomed the move.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome DK to London Spirit. He is a truly original thinker in our game, and his vast experience in short-format and franchise cricket will be invaluable. He brings infectious energy, enthusiasm, and a fun approach to everything he does,” Bobat said.
“Signing another elite individual of such stature shows our ambition and the importance of giving players the best possible support.”
The franchise has seen a major reshuffle in upper management this year, with Andy Flower, the head coach of RCB, moving to London Spirit as head coach in October. Dinesh Karthik, who was the RCB support staff member during the IPL 2025 triumphant campaign, has been through a very successful career in different formats. He played India in 180 international matches and was in more than 250 IPL games as a player and coach.
Though he is out of mainstream Indian cricket, the 40-year-old is still active in foreign leagues. He is already signed for the SA20 with the Paarl Royals and has recently led India at the Hong Kong Sixes as a captain.
Addition of Dinesh Karthik to be a great London Spirit player with his positional insight, vast experience and up-to-date T20 batting approach.
