New Delhi -with hundreds of flights being cancelled and thousands of travelers left without a home because of the continuing IndiGo problem, Indian Railways stepped up on Friday with the deployment of 116 coaches across 37 trains providing the chance to help those looking for alternatives to transport.
The additional coachesconsisting of AC-chair, sleeper car, and general-class compartmentswere added on 114 additional journeys across various railway zones. A top Ministry official stated that the expansion could hold up to 4000 passengers per journey which could accommodate approximately 4.9 lakh passengers throughout the period of crisis.
To cope the influx railways have also announced plans to operate 30 special trains each equipped with 18 coaches. This is a move designed to increase connectivity from major metros as well as easing the load on existing routes.
Railway officials have stressed that the flexibility in the composition of coaches – all the way from general AC — is an indication of their desire to react dynamically to changing demand across different routes.
