India’s World Cup–winning opener Smriti Mandhana has officially announced her engagement to music composer Palash Muchhal. The announcement came on Thursday through a creatively choreographed Instagram video featuring several of her India teammates. Although the video did not mention the wedding date, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed it while congratulating the couple.
The Instagram reel, which quickly went viral, showed Mandhana dancing with Jemimah Rodrigues, Shreyanka Patil, Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy to the popular track “Samjho Ho Hi Gaya” from Lage Raho Munna Bhai. The final shot captured Mandhana displaying her engagement ring, confirming the long-running speculation about her relationship.
Hints about the marriage had surfaced earlier when Palash Muchhal, during an interaction at the State Press Club in Indore last month, indirectly suggested that Mandhana would soon become the “daughter-in-law of Indore,” although he stopped short of giving a direct confirmation.
Wedding Set for November 23
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a heartfelt congratulatory note, praised the couple’s shared values and wished them a life filled with trust, love and harmony. He added that Mandhana’s elegance on the cricket field and Muchhal’s musical brilliance would make for a “wonderful partnership.” In the same message, Modi disclosed that the wedding will take place on November 23, 2025.
The engagement marks a joyful moment for Mandhana, who is fresh off her biggest career achievement. Last month, she led India’s batting charts during their historic Women’s ODI World Cup triumph in Navi Mumbai, scoring 434 runs in nine innings — the highest by any Indian batter in a single edition.
