Bihar Election Results 2025: NDA Clinches Landslide Victory, Nitish Kumar to Return as CM

In a resounding victory, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has swept the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, winning 202 seats out of 243, crossing the critical two-thirds majority. Sources confirm that this landslide was achieved through a strong performance by key alliance partners, including the BJP, JD(U), LJP (Ram Vilas), and HAM.

With this emphatic mandate, speculation is now centered around Nitish Kumar returning as Chief Minister. A senior JD(U) leader asserted: “No one other than Nitish Kumar will take oath,” indicating the alliance is unified behind him.

Seat-Wise Breakdown: Who Won What

BJP emerged as the single-largest party, winning 89 seats.

Janata Dal (United) secured 85 seats, boosting its influence in the NDA.

LJP (Ram Vilas) recorded a strong outcome with 19 seats, while HAM and RLM also added to the alliance’s strength.

In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan, led by RJD and Congress, met a disappointing result. The RJD managed only 25–34 seats depending on early counts, significantly below its target.

Meanwhile, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, once seen as a potential disruptor, failed to secure any seats in its debut.

Nitish Kumar’s Strong Comeback

Nitish Kumar, who has helmed Bihar politics for nearly two decades, is poised to take oath for yet another term. His popularity, combined with the NDA’s overwhelming seat tally, suggests a smooth transition in government leadership.

Political analysts attribute the NDA’s success to a mix of welfare policies, voter mobilization, and Kumar’s continued appeal, especially among women and youth.

Implications and Future Outlook

The NDA’s massive win in Bihar has broader political consequences. For Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it strengthens his alliance’s regional base and demonstrates continued relevance in an essential Hindi heartland state.

On the other hand, the RJD and opposition will have much to introspect about after a disappointing performance. The results are likely to reshape alliances ahead of future state and national elections.
